Product Description
Wonderful set of 6 demitasse or 5 O'clock spoons from 1933 in a fully functional alligator skin case by Walker & Hall of Sheffield, England.  The spoons feature two crossed golf clubs with a golf ball centered above.  The spoons measure 4 7/16 inches in length and are cased in fitted blue velvet and topped by a white silk line.  The case is very solid made from alligator skin with brass hinges and closure.  The case measures 5 x 5 5/8 x 3/4 inches and shows some wear and staining on the exterior.  The spoons are hallmarked with "W & H" (Period Correct  for Walker and Hall Silversmiths of Sheffield),  and with the three British legally required impressions, "Crown" for Sheffield, England, "Lion Passant" for Sterling Silver, and "q" for 1933; together the six spoons weigh 82.7 grams or 2.66 ounces troy of solid sterling silver.  I purchased the spoons in the late 1970s while training at Fort Gordon, GA.  The gentleman from whom I acquired them told me that Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts had commissioned the spoon sets to sell as they attempted to raise more money to complete the National.  He related that the case was made from Georgia alligators.  I have no idea if the story is true, the dates are correct and I have found these to be rare. In all my years of collecting sterling, I have stumbled upon a couple of the individual spoons, but have never seen another complete set.  These have served as wonderful conversation pieces and would make an excellent gift for an avid golfer.  The items are exactly as depicted in the photos taken with a high resolution camera.
Guaranteed to be SOLID Sterling Silver (aka 925/1000 or .925) defined as 925 parts of pure silver to 75 parts of other metal (usually copper) per 1000 parts of material.
Weights are to the nearest tenth gram/five-hundredths ozt, and items are individually weighed on two different recently calibrated scales.
