  • Condition: Used condition. The exterior is clean and bright, light paint wear and imperfection overall, with more on some of the gold flowers. Minor wear to the caramel luster band. The black paint along the upper rim has wear and whitish and brown discoloration. There are several scratches and rubs to the blue luster, with a larger rub at the bottom (white area). There are also some light brown marks on one side that may be original paint smudges. The interior has a lot of brown water staining inside towards the bottom from usage. No chips, cracks or crazing.

    Vintage 7" Japan Lusterware Ceramic Wall Pocket with Moriage Bird Decoration
    Here is a vintage hand painted Japanese luster ware ceramic wall pocket with lovely Moriage bird decoration. Marked on the back "Hand Painted Japan" with a flower logo with "H". I believe this is the mark for Hotta Yu Shoten Co. May date from the 1940's.
    I have placed a ruler in some pictures for size reference. This wall pocket measures approx. 7" long x 3 1/4" wide across the top and 2 1/8" deep at the top. It weighs about 11 oz. There is a hole in the back for hanging.
    Colorfully hand painted. Iridescent blue and caramel luster with brown and metallic gold paint, and multi-color Moriage painted birds in flight, plants and tree branches.
