Description
Sterling Standing Dish Cake made by Hamilton & Diesinger, Philadelphia, PA between 1895 and 1900. Wild rose design. The edge and the base are embossed with flowers, acanthus leaves and scrolls in an elegant late Victorian taste.
The decoration is very well executed, creates a chiaroscuro effect that brings out the depth and contrasts nicely with the smooth parts. The central monogram is itself a beautiful decorative stretch.
The accuracy of the craftsmanship, the proportions and the era make of this dish a precious and rare item. It is understandable that the value is not in the amount of silver used, but in the manner in which the metal has been used.
Please look at the photographs as more than words they can describe this object.
