Description

United States Special Forces, FOB-3, at Khe Sanh.
Patch is prior to late 1967. In 1967 Special Forces Operatives adapted this patch with the FOB replaced by CCN noting a change in structure.
Patch of Psy-Ops Unit out of Khe Sanh.
Middle letter in FOB, Forward Op Base, Changed to Greek Alphabet letter Phi ( Psi ) designating Psy-Ops Unit.
Super Rare. Forward Operation Base 3 at Khe Sanh (designated A-727) was in charge of the Civilian Irregular Forces previously commanded by the CIA in a fortified camp including an airstrip.
The US Special Forces Teams operating from Khe Sanh at this time (from 1962) managed combat Operations and border surveillance.
In late 1967 the FOB at Khe Sanh was incorporated into CCN, Command and Control, with no insignia authorized the Khe Patch was adapted (although this also was not authorized).
It was assigned conduct of classified unconventional warfare missions in Laos and North Vietnam.
