Recon Team Indiana – Letters From The North
COMMAND AND CONTROL NORTH, RT INDIANA (Recon Team Indiana) was responsible for incursions cross border into Laos and into North Vietnam.
Primed with the Responsibility for the conduct of Unconventional and Classified War - RT Indiana, Mike Force led, with indigenous personnell operatives was one of the earlier Special Forces Recon Teams to perform Missions under the Command & Control structure.
In addition to regular operations RT Indiana was the primary US Special Forces Unit conducting support operations for the CIA / PSY OP's operation, 'Letters from the North'.
'Letter's From the North' was a Radio broadcast by the 'Voice of Freedom' out of Taiwan and transmitted into North Vietnam.
The Letters from The North show provided listeners in North Vietnam with excerpts of letters written by North Vietnamese troops to their families however never posted as the soldiers were KIA and their belongings recovered.
The Voice of Freedom concentrated on sentimental pieces of writing where soldiers had outlined their fear of death, their wish to be back in their homes and the deplorable circumstances and hardships of their existence in the field.
Allied agents in North Vietnam reported mother’s of NVA Soldiers turning up at the Communist Party Headquarters in Hanoi shortly after the first transmission of the show requesting confirmation of their sons and daughter’s fate.
RT Indiana in addition concentrated many of their activities in the search and location of enemy jungle cemetaries for broadcast through the Voice of America, captured documents relaying NVA Losses were also broadcast.
As the operation continued, Letters from the North was utilized to provide allied agents in North Vietnam with coded messages from the CIA.
