Report by Samuel J. Hough, Gorham Silver Historian
The Gorham costing slip (box 25) records that this was a sample, a one-of-a-kind prototype, made 27 November 1908. The slip gives a
height of eleven and 15/16 inches and indicates that the vase is of the Modernic line. It was begun with twenty-nine troy ounces twelve
pennyweight of sterling silver which at {{detail_product_description}}.70 per oz. cost .52.
Some of the silver was cast for the base; casting took an hour and a half at a labor cost of {{detail_product_description}}.75. Most of the silver was drawn (three hours; .20) and spun (five hours; ). The prepared silver went to a silversmith in room M4 for assembly. Making required eight hours and cost
.80. The vase was then chased, in room O2, but the chaser’s number is ot provided. This work required seventeen and half hours at a cost of
    .75.
Finally the vase was bobbed (twenty minutes; {{detail_product_description}}.08), oxidized (sixteen minutes; {{detail_product_description}}.08), and finished (twenty-five minutes; {{detail_product_description}}.13).
The total of silver and labor costs was .31. To this were added 20% overhead, .46; 40% profit, .92; and 7.5% administrative costs,
.58, for a total of .27. The net factory price was set at but
